Laura Volkman is owner, grower and winemaker of Laura Volkman Vineyards.  She studied at the Northwest Viticulture Center in Salem, Oregon and has been making wine 10 years. 

Along with her husband, Jim, and two children, Jacob and Rachel, and two St. Bernards, Bella and Sam, nurturing the vineyard in the summer is a family effort.   The dogs chase birds, squirrels and each other, whille Jacob and Rachel drop second crop and hang nets to keep the birds away from the grapes. 

The anticipation of harvest is an exhilarating time of year, when the weather cools, the harvest moons light up the night sky, the grape skins soften and the seeds turn brown; the growing season comes to an end and a new vintage is born.  The adrenaline starts flowing with the roar of tractors, trucks, buckets, clippers and wineries firing up their crush lines!   Can't wait to do it all over again!
